Staying at The Best Western Mission Bay

Are you looking for a good family friendly place to stay when visiting San Diego? I totally recommend The Best Western Mission Bay.

We spent almost a week at the Best Western Mission Bay during our last visit to San Diego and I am glad we chose that hotel to stay at.  Seriously your choice of where to stay while traveling can make or break your vacation experience, This is especially true when traveling with kids (where you will most likely end up spending more time at your hotel than if you were traveling just as adults.)

Here are our top reasons  why we would recommend The Best Western Mission Bay for families  San Diego:

The Location

Location is very important when choosing where to stay. You want the convenience of being close to the attractions you wish to see, but it is also nice to be a little out of the way to better avoid traffic and noise.

The Best Western Mission Bay meets both those criteria.  It is close to all the major attractions you typically go to see when visiting San Diego (The San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Balboa Park (where you will find some amazing Museums), Old town and even downtown San Diego.  Yet,  since it is not in downtown San Diego you get to miss all the evening traffic heading back to your hotel at the end of the day after you have seen everything you wanted to see.

It is also walking distance from the Mission Bay beaches (which included some fun kids parks) were we spent more than one evening unwinding with our kids.

The Price

When traveling with 3 kids Price is always something I pay close attention to. I always try to get the best bang for my buck so to speak. And that is a big reason why we chose the Best Western Mission Bay. They are one of the best priced hotels in the area (and when teamed with all the amenities they offer really can’t be beaten.)

*Tip you can often find special deals and savings when you book directly through the hotel versus through a 3rd party booking site like hotels.com or Expedia. Best Western also offers a rewards program with points earned when booking directly through them. Here is the Direct Link to The Best Western Mission Bay.

 The Complimentary Hot Breakfast

This is another biggie and ties in with the last point. Food can be quite expensive while traveling as a family if you aren’t very careful. Which is why I LOVE that Best Western Hotels offer a Complimentary (aka FREE) Hot Breakfast. Not just cold cereal, muffins and bagels. No, they also offer fresh waffles, fruit, juice, and other hot breakfast items that rotate daily (like bacon, eggs, breakfast burritos, french toast, sausage…)

Thanks to the hearty Hot breakfast provided by the Best Western Mission Bay we were able to save not only on breakfast food costs but lunch also. How is that? Well, we all made sure to eat a hearty breakfast so we then only needed to carry with us some healthy snacks as we went around San Diego saving us from needing to get lunch while out and about.

FREE High-Speed Internet

This is a big one for us. Since we work while we travel my husband and I need access to the internet wherever we go. So Free Wifi is a must for us (free high-speed wifi is a plus).

The Amenities

After checking the location and Price of our accommodation I always look to see what room amenities are included before booking a hotel.  The Best Western Mission Bay pasted the test by providing all the Room and general amenities I like to look for when booking a home away from home.

Mini Fridge, Microwave, and Coffee Pot/Tea Maker

We have stayed places that don’t offer mini fridges, microwave, and coffee pot/tea maker. However, they really do make family travel life easier. Not only were we able to save our leftover dinners from one night (aka $5 Little Ceasars Pizza) to heat up for dinner the next, but we were also able to keep fresh fruits, berries, and yogurt and water chilled in the fridge to enjoy when we got back to our hotel each evening before dinner.

Cable TV

This is a nice amenity for kids (especially when the hotel cable includes the Disney Chanel like the Best Western Mission Bay). During those downtimes when not busy exploring Sand Diego, my kids enjoyed watching their favorite Disney shows while my husband and I either took a breather (3 kids can be exhausting) or got some needed work done. There was even a night or two that my husband and I enjoyed a movie after the kids fell asleep. This was definitely a nice amenity to have.

Clean Comfortable Beds

Sleep is very important to me, especially while traveling. While this was not an amenity specifically listed on their site,it was something we were greatly appreciative of at the end of a long day. I can’t tell you how nice it was after longs days site seeing in San Diego that I could curl up into a clean and most comfortable bed for a good night’s sleep.  Truthfully how clean and comfortable the beds are at a hotel is a major factor for whether or not we stay at that hotel again.

FREE parking

I have found that free parking is not something to be taken for granted at hotels these days. Especially in California. Which is why (being the frugal travel mom that I am) I LOVED that the parking at The Best Western Mission Bay was indeed FREE.

Their Pool

Whenever we book a hotel, one of the first questions our kids ask us is if there is a pool.  Not that I blame them. Even I look forward to visiting the pool after long days exploring San Diego. The Pool at the Best Western Mission Bay is found in the center courtyard of the Hotel. Our kids would beg each day for the pool so we kept it as a fun treat at the end of the day.

Tourist Infomation booth

If you are looking for recommendations for what you can do in and around San Diego, you can find a fully stocked booth filled with fliers and coupons to all the major attractions in and near San Diego in their breakfast room/ Business center.

Business Center

More than once during our stay, I ended up utilizing the Computers and printers in their Business Center to look up and print out tickets for pre-booked attractions like Sea World and Knottsberry farm.  This saved us time and hassle on the days we visited those attractions.

If you are looking for a great family-friendly hotel to stay at during your next trip to San Diego I highly recommend the Best Western Mission Bay.
