Yes, it’s true.  We did fly our family of 5 to Europe for only $750.

Ok so first off the $750 was for one way from California to London for 5 people (2 Adults & 3 children). However, we did get the same cost for our return trip 6 months later. So I guess round trip that made our flights $1500 for all 5 of us (and that was with 2 checked bags). I guess the second thing you need to know was that this happened 2 1/2 years ago. However to show you this wasn’t just a 1-time lucky fluke I just went on an anniversary trip with my husband to Paris, London, Bath & Edinburg where I got round trip tickets for my husband and I from Denver to Paris for only $631 altogether.

When we got these deals we weren’t using any special travel deal service. Our flights weren’t mistake fares or very special offers. So what was the secret?

We, to be honest, we just searched on google flights for the best-priced tickets and discovered what we were looking for. Google Flights is great for pulling up all the current flight deals available and comparing them.  Though there were a few other factors involved:

1- When we Traveled. 

We like to travel during the off seasons. We like to do so for a number of reasons the main one being it can be soo much cheaper. Additionally, we were flexible on which day we would leave. This can be huge for saving money on airline tickets. When we first looked at flying out we were looking at leaving on Thanksgiving (a great time to fly out of the country) While the ticket prices were good on that day we soon saw (when we clicked on the calendar option on GOOGLE FLIGHTS) that if we could instead leave December 4th we could save an addition $200+.

**As you can see in the photo (which isn’t as low as you can find off-season) You can save $3,840 just by flying from California to Paris on Monday, May 5th rather than Friday, May 10th.

2- Knowing which Airports near us are best for International Flights.

When searching for the best Airline deals it is important to know which Airports to look at. For example, when we aren’t traveling we live in Utah. Unfortunately, the SLC Airport isn’t the best prices for international flights. The Best Airports in the west & Midwest are Denver (this airport often has great deals for London & Paris), Las Vegas, San Francisco, Oakland & L.A. Knowing this when searching for our tickets I looked at these airports first. That’s when I found the great ticket deal for Norwegian Air.

One thing to note, airlines are pretty picky when it comes to the weight of your luggage on international flights so make sure you are under the required weight for your bags or it could cost you negating any money you will save with your killer airline ticket deal.  I recommend getting a portable luggage scale to take with you so you can check your bags before going to the airport.

Seriously it’s that simple. Know which airports near you have the best deals for you and stay flexible for when you go. Though one last thing. Sometimes Google flights aren’t perfectly accurate so after searching out your flight deal always book directly through the airline. That way you know for sure your ticket is the price you are expecting and that you won’t have any booking issues for your flight.

Additionally, there are great sites like Pomelo that will let you know when crazy awesome flight deals are available (whether because of a special promotion or because of a mistake fare that they airline will honor) Just sign up and they will keep you informed via emails. You can also find great travel package deals on Groupon Getaways that include flights, hotels and sometimes even tours.
