Tips For Visiting Knott’s Berry Farm With Kids

Are you looking for tips for taking young kids to Knott’s Berry Farm?

Some Amusement parks are soo big you really want 3-5 days to experience them (think Disney, Universal,) However, other parks like Knott’s Berry Farm (& Lego Land) are more contained in size and scope so that one or two days is enough for your visit. Though it is soo much fun you will want to come back again to enjoy.

Our first visit to Knott’s Berry Farm was a one day trip that we took a spur of the moment after our San Diego Trip.  We had an extra day before we needed to head back to Utah to meet up for a family reunion, and so we thought why not visit Knott’s Berry Farm. I hadn’t been since I was about 5 years old but still held fond memories of the Park.

We really had a great time on our first visit. Knott’s Berry Farm has fun things for all ages. There are thrilling rides for older kids and adults. found to the left of the entrance and the back of the park. We didn’t get to ride many of those due to having small kids with us (though my husband took our oldest on a few)

For those who love history and want to take a step back to old western days, their center section of Knott’s Berry Farm is where you will find the old Ghost Town. Though we learned a lot on that first visit (some lessons were harder learned than others) which made our future visits a lot better.

And for those with young kids, Knott’s Berry Farm has this cool Camp Snoopy area specifically geared toward kids. Of course for this visit, this was the section we spent the most time at. My youngest was excited that there were some rides even he could go on by himself.

Before you go to Knott’s Berry Farm the first time here are my top 6 Tips for the best experience:

Buy Your Tickets Online.

Yes, you can buy tickets at the gate. However, I would totally advise getting your tickets online for two reasons. The first reason is that tickets are cheaper online. The second reason, when you order your tickets online and print them out before going to the park you get to avoid the long tickets lines getting into the park sooner.

The BEST prices I have found on tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm, as well as other Southern California attractions as well as hotels to stay at in the area, are through Get AwayToday. (Get Tickets here).

Stay at a Hotel near the park.

For our first visit, we chose to stay at the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel right next to the park (Read about it here). Staying there not only allowed us to not have to worry about paying for parking at the theme park but also made it convenient to go back to our hotel midday to enjoy a cool lunch and nap (which our youngest needed) before heading back to the park,

We stayed at the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel which is right next door. (Thankfully we found a great deal for our stay at this hotel making it the perfect choice.) We are so glad we did this. Not only is the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel a top notch place to stay with nice bedrooms, and amenities like a pool, splash pad, and gym, but by staying at a hotel close to the park we saved money on parking by walking over to the park. We also found it convenient to take a break part way through the day to go back to our hotel for food and naps for our youngest before heading back to the park for more fun at the park.

Get to the park before it opens in the morning.

Due to the security measurements, lines to get into the park can get long. I recommend arriving at least 20 minutes before the park opens. This will help you to be close to the front of the line to get in faster once the park opens. Be aware that there isn’t much shade while waiting in line so if it is a hot day be prepared for that. Thankfully there are a lot of shady places inside the park.

Get a Map of the park.

Unless you are planning on visiting for a couple of days or have a season pass you won’t want to waste your time trying to figure out where everything at the park is. Not only will maps show you where all the attractions are but usually show where restrooms and food areas are as well. Which is why I recommend either printing out a map from online or grabbing a free one after you arrive.

Pack Snacks & Drinks.

If you are planning on spending the whole day at Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park you will want to pack a bag with snack and drinks to keep your kids happy. Trust me the last thing you want is to have hot and hangry kids on your hands. Yes, there are lots of places you can purchase food and snacks at the park, but like most amusement parks its not cheap. So packing your own is not only convenient (since you can bring food you know your kids will eat) but you can also save money.

Keep your tickets in a secure place after entering.

Your ticket to Knott’s Berry Farm is good for the whole day. This means you can leave to eat lunch  (or if you are staying nearby to go and relax at your hotel and let your kids take a nap during the hottest part of the day if needed) and then come back to enjoy the rest of the day at the park.

When you exit the park the attendant will ask if you are planning on coming back. If you answer yes they will stamp your hand. Then to get back in you just have to show the stamp as well as your ticket.

As I said, Knott’s Berry Farm is well worth the time and money to visit as a family. If you are looking for a more budget-friendly family vacation that is loads of fun I highly recommend Knott’s Berry Farm!
