Visiting the USS Midway With Children

Step back into America’s Navel Past by visiting the USS Midway.

I am such a huge History buff. So, of course, I love to visit places that have historical meaning. Even better if they have personal meaning. Which is why I couldn’t wait to take our kids to the USS Midway. You see my Grandfather served on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific and I grew up with his stories of what it was like.

My children loved seeing the different aircraft that the USS Midway once carried. They even had some that we were all able to climb inside and imagine flying.  Let me tell you that was soo much fun.  Though I totally have more respect for aviators and all the switches and buttons and monitors they have to keep track of and use to fly these amazing machines.

They do offer audio tours on the USS Midway, however, since we had small kids with us we opted to just show ourselves around. (which wasn’t hard since they had handy signs everywhere.)

We all loved getting to walk through the aircraft carrier and hear stories of what life on board was like. Stories just like the ones my Grandfather used to tell me when I was a child.

**As a side note, while it is possible to take a stroller on board the USS Midway, there are certain areas that are not stroller accessible. When going to those areas you will have to leave your stroller off to the side then either carry our child or walk with them holding their hand.
