Planning a trip to see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter California?

Do you have any Harry Potter fans in your house? Whether you’ve read the books or seen the movies, it’s such a great story. If you really want to bring it to life, you should consider a trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in California.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The attention to detail at this experience is brilliant. Music from the franchise can be heard throughout the resort, and you can even purchase wands that allow you to interact with things in the Wizarding World. My friends from Get Away Today have the inside scoop on all things Harry Potter, so keep reading to find out more.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Rides

In the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, there are two rides to experience. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey takes you through and above Hogwarts Castle. In the queue, you’ll walk by familiar scenes from the movie like Dumbledore’s office, classrooms, the Gryffindor common room and more. Then you’ll take a ride you won’t forget soaring above the castle, accompanied by Harry Potter, magical creatures and other characters. The second ride in the Wizarding World is Flight of the Hippogriff. This is your opportunity to race through the grounds around Hagrid’s hut on a roller coaster. Before you take off, Hagrid will let you know the correct way to approach a Hippogriff so you’ll be ready for this family-friendly ride.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Attractions

Throughout the Harry Potter experience at Universal Studios, there are numerous ways to feel like you’re truly in the Wizarding World. From shows to interacting with wands, there’s something for everyone.

Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle

In the evenings, you can enjoy a show projected on the exterior of Hogwarts Castle. The Dark Arts will attempt to take over the castle, and you’ll witness Dementors, Death Eaters and Voldermort’s army descend in fury. The scenes will be accompanied by a musical score and state-of-the-art animation. This is a limited time offering, so be sure to check the Universal Studios app for show times.

Ollivanders Wand Shop

To purchase a wand that will allow magical interactions in the Wizarding World, stop by Ollivanders. His shop will allow you to see a vast collection of wands (including character wands!), stored floor to ceiling and wall to wall. You can also witness a wand choosing a wizard. If you choose to wait in line to watch that short show, you can then head into another room to purchase a wand to take home. If you’d like to skip the show, you can go straight into Ollivanders and choose the wand for you.

Cast Spells

If you choose to purchase an interactive wand, throughout the Wizarding World of Harry Potter there are 15 different interactions you can have. You can cast spells to start fires, lock and unlock doors and even more. Look for these opportunities throughout the resort.

Frog Choir

An a capella quartet can be heard and seen through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, accompanied by frogs. When you catch the school choir in the resort you’ll enjoy familiar songs from the franchise with a froggy flourish.

Triwizard Spirit Rally

Support your favorite school, Hogwarts, Beauxbatons or Durmstrang, as they head off for the Triwizard Tournament. This show is essentially a reenactment of the procession the students make in the Great Hall of Hogwarts when they are introduced to one another prior to the tournament taking place.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Dining

There are a number of dining options in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and all are modeled after favorites from the Harry Potter franchise. Three Broomsticks and Hog’s Head are the place to be to enjoy a meal and refreshments. In Three Broomsticks you can sit and dine in the very place Harry himself first tried Butterbeer. In this cozy tavern, you’re surrounded by a family friendly atmosphere with dishes such as fish & chips and Shepherd’s pie to go along with your Butterbeer. In Hog’s Head you’ll find specialty drinks, imported beer, wine, spirits and more. For quick vending in the Wizarding World, stop by The Magic Neep and grab fresh fruit, cold beverages and snacks, including dairy free options. You can also stop by the Butterbeer stand to try frozen and regular versions of the iconic drink.
